Kettle boiling away

Don’t fill the kettle up, lad!

Make sure you only fill the kettle up with as much water as you need. Overfilling will use more energy and it will take longer to boil.

Objective/ Goal

  1. More energy efficient use of the kettle when boiling water: A full kettle costs around 2.5 pence to boil. Each person in Britain drinks an average of 875 cups of tea a year, c. £21.90 on electricity costs per person, reducing overfilling reduces the energy needed to boil water.

How/ Instructions

Use your cup to measure how much water you need first. Then only put the required amount of water in the Kettle so the amount heated is exactly what is needed. Good savings are attainable with a simple hack.
